Q: | I installed Version 3.0. When I click on the load button the film loads, scans, and displays the base scan. When I type in a search location and hit search the same base scan appears. What can I do about this ?
A: | Version 3.0 makes extensive use of recent improvements to the Fuji M-Drive. This problem is symptomatic of an incorrect ROM version. Version 3.0 of MS2600 requires ROM Revision 4.51 or greater. Contact Fuji Film for an upgrade. If this does not help, contact MSI

Q: | When scanning and saving as an MPT, the user notices the images change from portrait to landscape but the first few images have already been scanned. Is there an easier way to go back a few pages, delete the landscape ones without having to browse the MPT which takes sometime to open, i.e. can the user delete the last few pages scanned in an MPT file as they are scanning without having to stop and open the file?
A: | Yes in Version 3.0 there is an easier way to delete a page from an MPT. On the main menu select File->Open...this will open the "Open File" Dialog. Pulldown the "Files of Type" list and select "MultiPage Files (*.mpt)". Highlight the MPT file name (click once - do not doubleclick). Enter the page number you wish to delete into the "Page No." edit box (the number of the last image will be displayed initially). The page entered will display as a thumbnail in the "Preview" (if "Enable Preview" is not checked, check it). If it is the page to be deleted, click on the "Delete Page" button. Repeat the process for as many pages as are necessary. If you have changed the psge number and do not know the page number of the last page, simply enter a very high number in the "Page Number" edit box, it will then auto select the last page. Or you could select "File Info" and find the number of pages in the file. When you are finished deleting pages. click on the "Cancel" button.

Q: | If a roll of film has two or more days on it and each day begins with a new image location sequence, how can I use the search feature to find an image in the second day ?
A: | The solution is to load the roll, preset for the first sequence number. Advance to the last sequence number of the first day. Then clck the >> button until you are at the first image of the second day. Preset for this sequence number, then advance to the sequence number desired.

Q: | Is there a way to scan COM generated non-blipped 16mm film containing both Portrait and Landscape images ?
A: | Yes, Version 3.0 allows this type of operation. In the Manual Search Mode, the first image must be located and centered manually. Once the image is located the operator loads the appropriate profile ( landscape.msi or portrait.msi provided with Version 3.0) or manually sets the "pulldown" in the "Frame Advance" edit box on the Manual Search Dialog Box. When browsing forward with "Save Forward Images" checked the images are saved as single images in the default image path. if Save to xxxxxxxx.mpt is checked the images are added to the mpt file. When the format of the images changes the operator will have to stop the browse, select the next profile, recenter the image then continue the browse. For more information on using Manual Search in Version 3.0 please review Using Manual Search in the online manual.

Q: | How can I preset the image address of the first image before inserting the film into the M-Drive ?
A: | Yes, this can be done in Version 3.0. Simply enter the address of the first image, click on "Preset", then either click on "Load" (which will load the film, go to the first image, preset the address, and display the first image) or enter an address, click on "Search" or hit the "Enter" key (this will load the film, go to the first image, preset the address, advance to the address entered, and display the requested image). For more information on using the Preset, refer to Fuji Scanning Control in the online manual.

Q: | I Installed Version 3.0 on my system. The Installation appeared to be successful, but when I clicked the Load button the film advanced and a General Protection Fault message appeared on the screen. What caused this ?
A: | There are a couple of possibilities for this error: If the M-Drive is scanning (that is, you can hear the scan occur) the problem is associated with the image being saved on the disk. Check the user rights to ensure that the user has write privileges. Check available disk space, and the creation of the image folder.
The problem may also be a mechanical or electrical failure in the M-Drive, such as an incorrectly inserted lamp, failed lamp, cable, etc..
If the M-Drive fails to scan the problem is likely to be a profile problem. Try another profile or load defaults. Also uncheck "Bypass Base Scan" if it is checked. Once you have successfully performed a Base Scan and a final scan (check, duplex, or section) you can check "Bypass Base Scan".

Q: | When using Auto Scan (or Batch Scan) I am constantly getting the message Stop Auto Scan ( or Stop Batch Scan). I have not clicked on Stop. How do I stop this message ?
A: | MS-2600 responds to any mouse click as a "Stop Message" during Auto and Batch Scanning. Probably the operator is inadvertently double-clicking on the No button. MS-2600 sees the extra click as a stop message and displays the message. To avoid this problem use the N key (for NO) in response to the message rather than the mouse.

Q: | I installed Version 3.0. Every time I try to start MS2600 the splash screen displays, then the program crashes with no error message. How can I determine the problem?
A: | The problem is probably a hardware problem with the M-Drive. A lamp may be loose or blown, the SCSI cable may be loose, film may be wrapped around a roller, etc.. A set of diagnostic utilities ships with MS2600, by default they are installed in the Utilities sub-folder of the application folder. Additionally MS2600 has a "diagnostic mode" that displays messages from the M-Drive. To activate the diagnostic mode on MS2600 when it can be started check the Diagnostic Mode setting on the Configuration dialog. If MS2600 can not be started or you have a version earlier than 3.00.19 (newer versions are available on the download page), open the ms260030.ini file (in the Windows folder) in notepad and locate the TestMode= line in the [MSIDIDS] section. Change the line to TestMode=1.

Q: | I am using Version 3.0 and Winfax Pro as my fax software. When I click on the Fax icon the Winfax Send screen is displayed, however when I try to type a name into the send screen some letters do not display and the M-Drive rescans or moves the film. What can I do to correct this ?
A: | The problem is that the MS2600 application is responding to the "Hot Keys". Sometimes when the Winfax Pro Send screen is displayed the system does not recognize it as the active window, this seems to happen most often with Winfax Version 9.0 or above. To correct the problem use the Alt-Tab key combination to switch to the MS2600 window, then use the Alt-Tab key combination to switch back to the Winfax Pro Send screen. This will force the system to set the Send dialog as the active window and MS2600 will not respond to any keystrokes.

Q: | When scanning from check film, the front and back images are often of two different densities. Is it possible to compensate for this ?
A: | When scanning in the check mode there are a couple ways to compensate for differences between the front and back images: The first method involves using the Front Rescan (F on the keyboard) and Rear Rescan (R on the keyboard) tools. You do a scan of the front and back, then make the desired adjustments to exposure or scanning mode (Text, Text & Photo, Photo) then rescan either the front or rear. For example you can do a normal scan in Text mode at an exposure of 127, then change to photo mode and exposure of 155 and rescan the front. This example will mix a photo mode front with a text mode rear on the same image. The second method is to define a "Region" using the Set Region Tool from the Image Menu (the image menu can be activated by pulling it down from the main menu or using the M key, Ctrl R also selects the set region tool). Draw a rectangle around the section you want to change (e.g., the front of the check). At this point the image enhancement tools will only affect the selected region. Since Version 2.11 MS2600 has included a live preview tool that shows the effect of the image enhancement. For more information on Check Scanning see Scanning Check Film Images in the online manual. For more information on Image Enhancement see Using the Image Enhancement Tools.
